Joe’s lacrosse experience spans over 35 years as a player and coach. In high school, Joe was a 2 time all-American and captained his New Canaan, CT team to consecutive state titles his sophomore, junior and senior year. His senior year NC was 19-1, ranked in the top 3 in the US and Joe was the sole representative for the state of Connecticut in the national North-South all-star game in Baltimore.
Joe received a scholarship to play at Duke and was 4 year starter, earned academic all ACC honors and helped recruit Gregg Schmalz and others in the early years of building the Duke program into the powerhouse it is today.
After college, Joe moved to San Francisco and played club lacrosse for the storied Olympic Club (host of 5 US Opens in golf) and coached the University High school team in SF. Since moving back East to Needham, Joe has been a coach for the past 6 years in Needham Youth Lacrosse and is on the board of directors of the youth league.
Joe is a healthcare venture capitalist during the day with a focus on China-US transactions and is fluent in Chinese. Joe brought his lacrosse sticks to China in 1995 when he was a student there but unfortunately it didn’t catch on. However, he hasn’t given up on spreading lacrosse to China and still aspires to someday coach the Chinese national team but for now he is very happy coaching youth lacrosse in MA! He is married with 3 daughters, all of whom play youth lacrosse.
